Britanskaya povest' o morskix chudesax
A British Tale of Sea Wonders
Book Description
The relevance of reading and comprehending the contents of this book, written under the general editorship of Harold Wheeler in the first half of the XX century, in our opinion, is very important from a cognitive point of view for all those interested in the development of maritime affairs and its role in world civilization. The book in the most popular form tells about the centuries-old history of shipbuilding and shipbuilding, geographical discoveries, special branches of maritime affairs (engines and propellers, lighthouses, ports, canals, rescue service, laying of underwater cable), about such entertaining aspects of maritime history as piracy, shipwrecks, traditions and superstitions of sailors from different countries, riots on board, smuggling, robinsonade and much more. Now there is an extensive literature (and Internet resources), for example, about the famous tea clippers or about the Blue Ribbon of the Atlantic. But the authors of this book managed to describe these (and other) most interesting stages of maritime history in such detail and in such an entertaining way that modern capabilities will only complement the reader's already formed idea.
