Byzantine Timepiece. Volume 72 (97)
Book Description
The works submitted for publication cover a wide chronological and thematic range of subjects. The volume opens with an article that raises an important and interesting problem of Eastern influence on the formation of the image of the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) statehood. Of undoubted interest should be the work "Astrology and Politics in Byzantium in the 5th century", in which the development of such a peculiar branch of medieval scientific knowledge as astrology is revealed on the example of one of the episodes of late Roman political history. A feature of the volume can be considered the desire of the authors to reveal the plots of the political history of the Middle Ages through the prism of the biographies of political figures. The book contains a significant block of articles on Byzantine architecture. All these works are conceptual in nature, summarizing the long-term observations of the authors and inviting other researchers to the discussion. In the "Chronicle" section, the essay on the XX All-Russian Session of the Byzantines "Byzantium and the Byzantine Heritage in Russia and the World" (Moscow, June 3-6, 2013) is especially important. For specialists and a wide range of readers interested in the history of Byzantium and its centuries-old ties with the outside world.
