Book Description
All the plots of the ninth issue of the almanac are connected in one way or another with national history. The first section discusses several characteristic examples of the difficulties experienced by historians in understanding the events and figures of thought related to Kievan Rus. The second deals with various kinds of ethnic minorities and problems in their relationship with the dominant communities. The third section is devoted to two bright historical characters who turned out to be not at all the people they claimed to be. Finally, in the fourth section, an attempt is made to consider two classic works of Soviet culture - the novel by N. Ostrovsky "How the Steel Was Tempered" and the film "Seventeen Moments of Spring" - as epic works and to show the archetypal features of the images of their main characters.
