Code. The secret language of computer science
A cult book that has become for many the first confident step in programming. Although modern computers are more complex than computers of a quarter century or half a century ago, they have not fundamentally changed. That's why it's so great to study the history of technology: the deeper you go into the past, the simpler technology becomes. Therefore, it is easy to get to the point where everything is absolutely clear. The author of the book "Code" looked so far into the past that he got to the XIX century and explained the computer device using the example of the first telegraph machines. Theoretically, all the equipment from the first 17 chapters of the "Code" is easily assembled from the simplest electrical components that have been in use for more than a century. Thanks to all this vintage technique, when reading the "Code" you will experience some nostalgia. And let the "Code" very thoroughly explains the device of the computer (there are not many other books that describe, for example, how the processor works), the style of the book is quite entertaining. Despite the depth of the topic, the author will give the reader a comfortable walk through the world of programming.
