The issue opens with articles based on the study of rare archival materials that allow us to supplement our understanding of the course of confessionalization in Germany and the structure of the trade in European fabrics in Russia in the 17th century. Under the heading "The Saint and the Simple" presents research on the history of faith and the church in the Middle Ages. In the section devoted to the history of Russian medieval studies, an analysis of the work of the recently deceased A.Kh. Gorfunkel, as well as a study based on archival materials of the relationship between A.N. Nasonov and D.M. Petrushevsky, which makes it possible to understand the circumstances and difficulties of the existence of historical science in the USSR in the first half of the 20th century.
