Persian Folk Tales
The fairy tales included in the collection were mostly recorded by the famous scientist, Iranist Alexander Alexandrovich Romaskevich (1885-1942) during his scientific expeditions to Persia (now Iran) in 1913 and 1914. When translating fairy tales, the scientist sought to preserve all the features of the spoken language of his informants, among whom there were mostly very simple people. Perhaps that is why it is so easy for the reader to plunge into the warm atmosphere of the hospitable East, to feel like one of the guests of a coffee shop where the "nakkal" (narrator) entertains the audience with fairy tales and anecdotes. The book is accompanied by a detailed article about the peculiarities of the existence of Persian fairy tales and the fate of their narrators, a dictionary of incomprehensible words and detailed comments. A series of illustrations by the famous Georgian artist Georgi Chachanidze was created specifically for this publication and is being published for the first time.
