Politika protiv istorii. Delo partizana Kononova
In 1998, a criminal case was opened against Vasily Kononov (1923-2011), a member of the anti-fascist Resistance movement, a citizen of Latvia, on charges of committing war crimes by him. Two years later, the 77-year-old veteran was sentenced by a Latvian court to six years in a closed prison. For the first time, not a Nazi accomplice was convicted of war crimes, but a partisan who fought with the occupiers. No matter how monstrous it may sound, a precedent has been created that can be used to prosecute any of the members of the Resistance movement who fought in France or Belgium, Poland or Italy as part of the forces of the anti-Hitler coalition.
