Tales and Legends of Scotland (illustrations by Kate Leeper)
A selection of 11 of the best magical Scottish and Celtic fairy tales and legends edited by Teresa Breslin, a world-famous British children's writer, a native of Scotland, author of more than thirty books for children and teenagers and winner of the Carnegie Medal, a prestigious literary award for the best children's book. Among the fairy tales included in the collection are legends about fairy-tale creatures from Celtic and Scottish folklore, stories about friendship, love and loyalty, as well as interesting, very unusual and extremely instructive Scottish versions of the well-known fairy tales about Kolobok and Little Red Riding Hood. The fairy tales are written in an excellent literary language with a fair amount of humor, beautifully translated and edited, as well as specially adapted by the author-compiler of the book for preschool children. They perfectly convey the atmosphere of the fabulous world of Celtic and Scottish folklore, unique ancient traditions and the spirit of this special country. The illustrations for the book were made by the famous Scottish artist Kate Leeper.
