Van Gogh. Still life

Book Description
The album introduces the reader to the still lifes of Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). The paintings of this genre captured the artist's special view of the world of things, a penetrating understanding of their hidden essence. In the context of the history of painting, this is not surprising, because the world of things is one of the main themes of post-impressionism, which sought to freely and generally convey the materiality of the world in visual images. Each artist understood this task in his own way, turning the work on a still life into a process of artistic research and experimentation. The painting of Van Gogh, whose creative path began with the still life genre, is also marked by innovation. Clay bottles, flasks, coffee grinders, jugs, reflecting the elements of the harsh life of the peasants, became characteristic images of the artist's Dutch still lifes. In the Parisian still lifes, the world of peasant everyday life was replaced by picturesque images of flowers and fruits, written in a free creative manner. The series "Sunflowers", conceived by the artist as "a symphony of yellow and blue", and the famous "Irises" became a story about the fragility and doom of all living things. Van Gogh's freedom in choosing nature for a still life was unlimited. The image of the beautiful made its way through the understanding of the inner essence of any objects - be it torn shoes or golden sunflowers and purple irises.
