This textbook has been prepared in accordance with the program "Master of Law in the Field of Intellectual Property" of the Department of Intellectual Rights of the University. O.E. Kutafin (MSUA). The author considers the main strategies, methods, legal mechanisms for brand protection. Significant attention is paid to the means of preventing parasitism on a foreign brand, mechanisms for obtaining rights to a foreign brand, as well as defensive strategies of copyright holders against competitors seeking to deprive their brand of legal protection. The material is presented on the basis of current legislation, with a wide involvement of law enforcement practice. The textbook has been prepared taking into account new legal trends using modern methodology: a comparative legal method, economic analysis of law, an institutional approach, etc. Legislation is given as of October 1, 2016. The textbook is addressed primarily to undergraduates and graduate students of law schools, but it will be interesting also for undergraduate students, practicing lawyers, law school professors, and anyone interested in the enforcement and protection of patent rights.
