Znaniya i dengi. Issledovatelskie universitety i paradoks rynka
Market forces have had a profound effect on the fundamental tasks of the modern research university related to the creation and dissemination of knowledge. Through these forces, American universities have gained access to greater financial resources, admitted the best students, and forged closer ties to the economy. However, market factors have also exacerbated inequalities, weakening the university's control over what happens within it and its ability to serve society. Based on the results of a 20-year study and new data covering 99 research universities, the author of Knowledge and Money explains this paradox by assessing the impact of market forces on universities in four key areas: finance, basic higher education, research and participation in the regional and national economic development. Roger Geiger is Distinguished Professor at Pennsylvania State University and the author of numerous publications on research universities and the history of higher education.
